STORY BEHIND THE TITLE

Ellen White began to write on the subject of health after a divinely-inspired paradigm shift in her thinking on 5th June, 1863. During the following decades, she wrote on a variety of health subjects, prompting health ministry to become an integral part of mission work globally in the church she was a member of. This is a legacy that remains until this day.

Ellen’s desire for a comprehensive volume on health ultimately led to the publication of The Ministry of Healing in 1905, condensing 42 years writing on the topic into a single book, one of her most consequential and practical works.

The first statement in the first section of the book, quoting Isaiah 61:1-2, aptly sums up what motivated Ellen to write the book:

““To preach good tidings unto the meek;… to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the year of Jehovah’s favor; … to comfort all that mourn.””

Thus The Ministry of Healing was crafted to be a blessing to all people, not merely Christians.
